President Buhari Is A Private Citizen At The Moment – Presidential Aide

Asking Buhari To Disclose His Health Status Is Disrespectful – Lauretta Onochie (PA to the President on social media)

Mrs Lauretta Onochie, the Personal Assistant to the President has described the call on the President who has been in London since the 7th of May to disclose his health status and to either resume or resign as insensitive and disrespectful.

Her comments came hours after a coalition of youth groups, Concerned Nigerians protested in Abuja the Federal Capital Territory, demanding that the President Buhari reveal his health status and either resume or resign.

The Presidential Aide condemned the demand by the group of youths in Abuja while on Channels Televisions' Politics Today, Yesterday Monday the 7th of August 2017.

She however said that the President's absence have not and is not affecting the governance in Nigeria as he complied with the rules and constitution of the country by handing over to his vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo before travelling out of the country.

“I have no idea why anybody would disrespect another by asking for the details of their health status. As we speak, we have an Acting President; President Buhari seems to be a PRIVATE CITIZEN at the moment; it is very disrespectful for anyone to ask for his health status,” - Onochie

“It is very insensitive of anyone to begin to call on someone who is unwell to resume. Governance is going on, the role of the President is that of coordination; governance is a collective duty. When he was leaving, power was fully transferred to the Vice President and today, we have an Acting President,” she added.
She categorically said, President Buhari has not violated any constitutional provision and that the Presidency is under no pressure of any kind as the President have the choice to disclose his health status and not an obligation.

“The President has acted constitutionally; he has not broken any law, any rule or any constitutional provisions in our nation. The prerogative to tell Nigerians lies only on President Buhari; it is disrespectful and intrusive, it is not right, it is not appropriate,” she said.

Also, a co-convener of the Concerned Nigerians group, Deji Adeyanju who was present on the tv programme took his stand on Section 144 of the Nigerian Constitution, which recommended the setting up of a medical panel to address the controversy surrounding the President’s health status.

Adeyanju also said, “What our group is saying is that the President needs to come back home and resume and work on the mandate that he promised the people and again, we are saying that Section 144 is the only thing that can help to solve the problem.”
