All Unapproved Schools Will Not Longer Operate In River State As From September 2017 - Nyesom Wike

Nyesom Wike, the River State Governor has declared all unapproved schools in the state not to be allowed to operate as from September 2017.

Nyesom Wike speaking at the government house on Tuesday in Portharcourt during a courtesy visit by the Jesuit Memorial College management, Mbodo-Aluu. Nyesom Wike said that about 1886 schools in the state have been shut down for failing to meet standard specifications.

"We have told parents of children at the 1886 schools shut down by the state government to relocate their wards before the commencement of the next academic session" he stated

“By September, we shall fully implement measures aimed at strengthening the state education sector. We want to maintain a standard that will uplift education in the state" he added

Nyesom Wike said that education is critical and important in the administration’s agenda to transform the state and empower the people.

He exercise his anger that most illegal schools have become WAEC magic centres where examination malpractice is promoted and carried out.

Governor Nyesom Wike said that measures have been put in to check the rising of illegal schools in different parts of the state.

Governor Nyesom Wike applaud the management of the school for setting up the institution in honor of the 60 children who died during the Sosoliso Plane Crash on December 10, 2005.

He also pledge that the state government will support and ensure that the school serves the people better.

Earlier Rev. Emeka Asogwa, the Principal of Jesuit Memorial College informed that the school was established in memory of the 60 children killed in the Sosoliso Air Crash which occured in 2005.

Emeka Asogwa appealed to Nyesom Wike the Rivers State Governor to help the school to get the Certificate of Occupancy for the 21 hectares of land allocated to it by the State Government.
